Project Outcome

Unfortunately, I did not stay at the company long enough to see AMAZE, AstraZeneca's disease management platform, launch to the public, but the results of the clinical trial released in February 2023 (full study available at ClinicalTrials.gov). Highlights of that study's outcome include:

  • 86.7% of patients reported an Excellent or Good SUS (system usability score) after one month of using AMAZE
  • 81.8% of patients rated their experience with AMAZE as Very Satisfied or Satisfied
  • 13.6% of patients Strongly Agreed or Agreed that AMAZE helped them avoid an emergency room or urgent care visit

The opportunity

An estimated 133 million Americans - nearly half the population - have at least one chronic disease, such as heart disease, asthma, and chronic kidney disease. That number is expected to reach 170 million by 2030. Chronic diseases can decrease the length and quality of someone's life if not managed properly. Healthcare providers often lack visibility into patient's wellbeing between appointments, resulting in just-in-time care or interventions too late.

Constraints

I joined the AMAZE project about a year after it's inception. Expanding the number of chronic diseases our platform supported was the number one priority of upper leadership. Our goal was to understand our patients quickly, ship functionality as needed, and iterate relentlessly.

My role

As the lead mobile app UX/UI designer, I worked alongside multiple UX researchers each focusing on a specific chronic disease. My responsibilities focused on translating our research findings into useful, accessible workflows. I also assisted in building our design system for iOS and Android.

Note: Due to the company's non-disclosure agreement (NDA) I cannot share any real visuals of the product publicly. All visuals on this page were recreated by me to replicate a similar, but not identical experience of the product (and also showcase my visual design skills 🤓).
